Peter left school at the age of 16. His brother-in-law Les found an opening at his own place of work and on 6 September 1954 Peter joined the General Electric Company as an Apprentice Electrician based in Wembly. Peter qualified as an Electrician in December 1959 and moved to the G.E.C offices in Magnet House, Hanger Lane, Ealing where he striped out electrics as well as general maintenance of the same. He then moved to G.E.C Domestic Equipment and it was here that he met Janet Doris Wilkie. They married after 9 months on 4 March 1961 in St James Church Alperton. Peter left G.E.C in the same year and went to work night shifts at Kodak for 2 years. It was then in March 1963 that Janet and Peter celebrated the birth of thier Daughter Heather and Peter felt a move to a new job was necessary and went to work for Express Dairies in South Ruislip as an auto electrician on thier lorry fleet. The following year Peter decided to work for Topgrade Electronics installing vehicle alarms throughout the uk and it was during this time that Peter and Janet celebrated the birth of their son Derek when he was born in February 1965. He stayed with vehicles but moved to Slough Vehicle Electrical services in 1966 repairing the electrics on cars and vans. He soon got itchy feet again though and decided in 1967 to go it alone and repair cars and lorries in various companies worshops. In 1970 he was offered a job with Frank E Dell Garage in the High Street in Chalfont St Peter as a chief motor mechanic in the Peugeot section and then employed in 1971 by Peugeots themselves in Acton ensuring vehicles were in first class condition for release to the press. 1972 saw another move to Souriau where he was employed as a salesman selling electronic diagnostic equipment and he was there for 10 years. He decided to go back to his own trade as an electrican and in 1982 became self employed mainly working for government departments and it is then that he helped train his son Derek into the business. The firm grew and he and Janet ran the business together until she sadly became ill from Mesothelioma and Peter closed the business in 1994 so he could look after her until she passed away in January 1995. During this time Heather had two children, Evie born in October 1992 and Maddie born in August 1995.Derek also had a daughter, Holly born in April 1992. He was offered a postion at his beloved East Somerset Railway in 1997 and felt it was the right time to move and it was here that he met Mandy and after working together for 4 months he asked her on thier first official "date". Peter moved into the Cranmore Station House and soon asked Mandy and Tamara to join him and together they set about trying to turn the business around working many hours and would some times see the sungo down and come back up again whilst clearing up after a wine and dine train. Having suceeded in reducing the losses the companies were making, Mandy and Peter continued to put thier heart and soul into the railway as they knew how much joy it brought to people. It was in 2001 when sadly the new directors appointed decided that they werent able to shoulder the risks that Mandy and Peter had and decided to make them redundant and to sell the company. But it wasnt long before the pair decided to stick together in business and decided to renovate some properties. The first house in Bedminster was a huge success and rose the ceiling price in the road. Then came a house in Chitterne and Pixies in Stallbridge and unfortuantly times changed and so did peoples circumstances. It was many years and many collapsed sales later that the cottages were both sold in which time the interest had wipped out the profits. Stressfull times which put a huge strain on thier relationship but even in tough times and arguements they still cared deeply for one another. The pair decided to keep an eye on the market until it became more stable whilst Mandy took on some bookkeeping work. They had plans to renovate more property when Tamara went to university but sadly Peter was told his diagnose of Mesothelioma in July 2011 after becoming unwell in March of the same year.
